I need movies and tv shows that portray the blind for a presentation. I already know of Little House On The Prairie, Highway To Heaven, Early Addition, Blind Justice, Cobert Affairs, At First Sight, and The Miracle Worker. They have to be realistic movies and show. Dare Devil and Blind Fury don't count.
What about "A Patch of Blue" and "Butterflies are Free"? I haven't seen the former in several years but the latter is very realistic and even deals with the issue of some people (the main character's mother) seeing the blind as superhuman when all they want to do is be treated like everyone else. And his friend gives him that opportunity and sees him for who he truly is and not just a blind man. She even has a confrontation with his mother about this.
See can you get DVDs of the NBC series "The Rockford Files." Around 1979 a blind psychiatrist, Dr. Megan Dougherty, was introduced. Actress Kathryn Herrold won an award for the portrayal of this character. Also the movie "Blink" with Madolyn Stowe.
How about Jamie Foxx's portrayal of Ray Charles in the biopic "Ray"? That's one of my favorites.
Their is a documentary called the blind me. Shouldn't be too hard to track down.
I just thought of a second, not exactly dealing with blindness I guess but I'll post it anyway. Another documentary, this one called Through a Dog's Eyes.
I'll have to look up this stuff on Youtube. It sounds interesting.
How about scent of a woman, al pachino at his best, and an old movie from the 80's called "if you could see what I hear". There's also one called "hear no evil, see no evil". All three are pretty good.
The sitcom Becker had a pretty normal blind character in it. Star Trek the Next Generation had Geordi LaForge who was blind. He wore a prostheses that allowed him to see although it wasn't normal vision. Don't know if that counts but blindness came up on many occasions.
All of these sound good. I haven't googled them yet but I will. So keep them coming. I'm actually looking for a clip of any movie or tv shows that portrays the blind in a contraversy with society. For example on Little House On The Prairie my friends said that when Adam gets his sight back and take's Mary to a party, She is left sitting in a corner while he plays a game with the other attorney leaving her isolated.
I really like "A Patch of Blue". The girl's a little, well, different, but it's because of her family situation, and she ends up coming around, somewhat at least. It's good if you want to show how family treatment can heavily influence someone who is blind.
But Blind Fury is so much damn fun! I watched that in college, and me and friends were laughin' drinkin' beers and having a good time. Then again with If You Could See What I Queer, the empties kinda kept rickocheting off the TV screen. I'd call that a blind-ism for those who seem to have co-opted isms for these things, 'cept the majority in the party could see.
Blind Fury = good times IMHO
